Dana 30 3/8" Differential Cover

Dana 30 3/8
  • Ring is 1/2" and the Cover is 3/8" thick
  • Plate steel cover bent 8 ways
  • Machined absolutely flat for a perfect fit
  • All seams fully welded inside and out

This is our basic differential cover, we see it as the only one worth making. The D30 came in a few different trucks but it primarily came in Jeeps, from the Jeepster in the late 60's, through most of the CJ5, CJ6, & CJ7 years, throughout all of the different Wrangler variations (YJ & TJ), Cherokees (XJ), and of course the Early Broncos. The D30 axle is actually a pretty good little axle if you don't get carried away with too big tires.

One of the questions we get regularly is about the tie rod clearance, it is ~3/4" and it clears all of the D30 axle setups we have encountered.

This Differential cover is a 1 piece Plate steel cap 3/8" (.375") thick bent 8 ways then welded to a 1/2" ring, we had to make it thicker to make enough room for the thickness of the cover, it just happens to make it 30% stronger too! The fill plug is a generous 3/4" ID for easy fill and oil level check. This is arguably the strongest Diff Cover made for a Dana 30 axle.

We manufacture this and all of our covers out of A50 Plate Steel, thats 50,000 PSI Tensile strength. After welding the mounting surface is machined absolutely flat for a perfect fit! This is for a fully welded D30 Differential Cover with fill plug ready to plug and play.

All material is 3/8" thick, well designed, dome for ring gear is made from one peice of steel, nice welds. My wish list would be to have an option for allen head bolts that are flush mount cone shape.

There's no comparison with ruffstuff's diff covers. Actually sold my "bombshell" cover when i bought this. Absolutely solid and really a work of art, not to mention no 11-teen-year-old skull on them. Shipping is awesome every time with these guys. Absolutely would buy again, and have for the other toys.

I just installed mine today and this thing is THICK. I doubt I'd dent this like I did my stocker. As the other poster mentioned, the bolts don't fit well due to the thickness of the plate. I ran to the hardware store while the RTV was setting up and picked up some 5/16"x1"-18 bolts and some washers so I'd have more thread in the case.

I ordered my RuffStuff Dana 30 3/8" Differential Cover back in November and I was very impressed with it when I received it. Beautiful welds and so heavy! The box it came in was about gone. But even UPS/USPS (I forget the carrier) couldn't do any damage to this hung of sculpted metal! lol I just got around to installing it last night. Fitment on two of the bolts was a bit tight, so I would recommend a "dry" fitting before you put the RTV on it, you need to know what bolts to start with, and obviously don't tighten any of them until you have them all started. I haven't put it on the dyno, but I'm pretty sure I've gained at least 10 HP from this mod! ;o) Heavy duty, very well made product. I'll be getting one for my Chrysler 8.25 soon! I've done a post with lots of pictures of the installation on xjtalk.com.
