Our Lower Radius Rods are also very simple but with some serious improvements over the factory rods. The factory Radius Rods are simply too thin to add the bends needed for clearance which is a fail on both accounts. Being so thin (¾”) they are both delicate AND don’t have the clearance to avoid obstacles.
The stock Radius Rods are 3/4” Diameter X .065” Wall Mild Steel. We make our Lower Radius Rods with 1.25” Diameter .25” Wall CNC Bent 4130 Chromoly material strong enough to take the bends required to give the additional clearance. Remember that our kits give you 3” more clearance than stock and can take the hit that will eventually come. The chassis end employs a 7/8” Heat Treated Stainless Uniballs housed in a 4130 Chromoly cup to prevent roll. The wheel side uses a 5/8” Heat Treated 4130 Chromoly Rod End.
The Lower Radius Rods are more than 500% stronger than the 3/4” stock rods and they weigh in at 7lbs each so the 3.5lb weight gain versus the strength gain matters very little.
Our Upper Radius Rods are really very simple but definitely stand out from the crowd. When you look at the stock rods you think they are fine, they are out of the way but you don’t think about what will happen to them if the lowers fail. We cure that issue by making them strong enough to withstand a lower radius rod failure while retaining the flexibility required.
These are built from solid 1” round 7075 aluminum bar, a material known for extreme flexibility and strength with ⅝” heat treated chromoly heim joints versus ¾” tin foil thick stock rods with bushing ends. Which would you prefer? The weight difference is ½ lb.
