14 Bolt Disc Brake Conversion Kit (SRW)

14 Bolt Disc Brake Conversion Kit (SRW)

NOTE: Fits 73-87 single rear wheel full float 14 bolt housings. Requires steel wheel minimum 15" with a maximum 4" back spacing and larger aluminum wheels

Our disc brake conversion kit is the best conversion to eliminate the drum brakes on a full float 14 Bolt Rear Axle. The 14 bolt axle is common in Chevy / GM fullsize trucks from 1972 until today in the 3/4 ton and 1 ton range. Changing from drum brakes to disc brakes is easy, and all the parts you need to complete the conversion are included in this kit to get rid of those heavy drums brakes. These will work on a 73'-87' axle These will work on 73-87 axle. They will work on some newer housings that have the drum mounted on the back of the hub. They do not work on axles with slip over drums. To double check, measure from the 4 bolt mounting flange to the surface the wheel studs press up against (back of hub), should be about 4 11/16"

Complete Kit Includes:

  • 1 Pair 14 Bolt Disc Brake Brackets with Grade 8 Bolts
  • 2 Weld on Brake Line Tabs
  • 2 Brake Line Clips
  • 2 Brake Calipers
  • 2 Hydraulic Hoses with 10mm Banjo Bolt Fittings
  • 4 New Brake Pads
  • 2 New Rotors
*NOTE* If longer studs are needed, usually dually studs are long enough or Dormin #610-301. Double check stud diameter, studs should drop freely into the rotor. DO NOT press studs into the rotor. If your hub has too large of studs you will need to drill the rotors to accept them. Be sure to have minimum 5/8" lug nut thread engagement
*NOTE* This application will NOT FIT DUAL WHEELS
*NOTE* This is for Full Float axles only, does not work on Semi Float
*NOTE* Rotor installs onto the backside of the hub!
*NOTE* Don't forget to re-bleed your brakes once you've installed your new conversion kit.+
*NOTE* A Proportioning Valve is recommended, this will allow you to fine tune your front/rear stopping power bias. Your front axle should always do about 70% of the work.

This kit comes with everything you need to install the kit. I would recommend for anyone who wants a kit with out struggle or issues.

Questions and Answers

Ask a Question

Don K. on -- Asked: What kind of calipers are used with this kit?

Answered: These use 73-87 Chevy 4x4 3/4 ton front calipers or for the parking brake option the 76-77 Cadillac El Dorado rear caliper
Irving H. on -- Asked: Hey what year, make, and model do i need to get replacemeng pads for this conversion. Everything works great just time for new pads

Answered: 73-87 Chevy 3/4 ton 4x4 front pads for our standard non parking brake calipers
Dusty B. on -- Asked: What proportioning valve is recommended for this kit?

Answered: We recommend the manual adjusting proportioning valve made by Wilwood. Choose the appropriate one for your brake line diameter and I recommend flaring it off the master cylinder so it is up away from water to decrease the chance of it seizing
Andrew G. on -- Asked: Do the 76-77 Cadallic El Dorado calipers work fine with the K20 rotors?

Answered: Yes
Todd T. on -- Asked: Do you know if your parking brake caliper will fit on a 1999+ 14 bolt axle that originally had disc brakes? Previous owner installed axle into Jeep LJ without factory GM e-brake.

Answered: No it will not bolt up to the factory mounts
Jordan E. on -- Asked: does this come with ebrake or as an option? also does this use a standard rotor and pads or is it custom... how large is the rotor as compared to the stock drums...

Answered: We currently do not have a parking brake option. We are working on having some made. You can use rear Cadillac Eldorado calipers from 1976-78 with our brackets if you can find them. This kit uses rotors, pads and calipers off the front of 70's-late 80's K20 4x4 trucks, so they are easy to find at local autoparts stores. The rotors are 12.5" diameter.
COTY M. on -- Asked: what bore is the calipers?

Answered: 3.15 in. is the piston diameter
Nicholas C. on -- Asked: Will the 14 bolt disc brake conversion work on a 75 Scout D44 ?

Answered: No, this kit only works on full float 14 bolt axles and Full float Eaton axles
Wayne on -- Asked: I have a 72 Chevy 14 bolt do you guys make a disk brake conversion kit for that year? I seen your kit is for 73+ just wondering what is different thanks

Answered: It will work on the 72 14 bolt as well. Think our website guy thought they started in 73 as this was the Eaton axle replacement that which last used in 72. The brackets supplied with this kit fit both the Eaton axle and 14 bolt single rear wheel axles.
Miguel S. on -- Asked: Does this kit fit a 1972 C20 with the 14 bolt 3/4 rear end? Would I just have to buy the el dorado calipers for a parking brake and is that plug and play?

Answered: As long as it is the 8 lug full float 14 bolt it will. 1976-77 El Dorado Calipers are what you need to retain the parking brake. Only other thing I would recommend is an adjustable brake proportioning valve in line to the rear brakes. That 1972 rear end may be the Eaton rear axle though. They fazed out the Eaton rear end in the early 70's for the 14 bolt. I would just confirm which it is as we have kits for both axles.
Tim K. on -- Asked: Hey guys, will this kit work on an '85 K2500 with a 9.5" Semi-Float 8 Lug 14 bolt rear end? Having trouble finding a kit...

Answered: No the wms is different from the full float. A weld on kit may work but we would need to check some measurements on your axle to make sure the bracket can be welded to an adequate spot on the tube
RAY E. on -- Asked: will this convert 1998 gmc k2500 surburban from drum to disk brakes, doesn't such a conversion require new master cylinder for brakes does this include parking brake,

Answered: We don't have anything for that year axle, our kits are for the 87 and older. Depending on how much fluid your master and booster can handle you may be able to stick with stock. Currently our kits do not have parking brake but we are planning on some in the future
Nick T. on -- Asked: Do these have a provision for a parking brake? I can't really tell for sure in the pictures but it doesn't look like it does.

Answered: Our kits currently do not have a parking brake option. 1976-77 Cadillac El Dorado rear calipers will bolt to our brackets and have a parking brake.
