FJ80 Hellfire High Steer Knuckles

High-steer knuckle set for 1991–1997 FJ80 axles with 25mm trunnions and D60 studs

These knuckles add true high steer to the FJ80 axle using reinforced castings, 6-stud steering arm retention, and a shimless set-screw preload system. Arms are pre-tapered for FJ80 tie-rod ends and can be reamed for GM 1-ton TREs or heim steering; each arm is double-tapered for left- or right-hand drive. Stud layout increases spacing to reduce leverage on the arms, and the lower cap is counterbored to protect hardware for reliable clamping under load.

The assembly uses 25mm trunnion pins and bearings for higher load capacity, with outer four Dana 60 studs (Grade 10.9) and two inner 1/2" Allen bolts (Grade 14) securing each arm. On stock FJ80 suspension, track bar relocation is required to clear the tie rod and correct drag link angle in a high-steer position. ABS sensors and brake backing plates are not retained due to knuckle thickness, and wheel backspacing must not exceed 4.5".

Hellfire=hell yeah

I've been eyeballing hellfire knuckles for a while since they popped up on pirate and ih8mud. Back then it seemed they were tough to get. A couple weeks ago I looked at buying some and was surprised that ruffstuff had them in stock! Well it appears ruffstuff step up to the plate and acquired the hellfire knuckles from Billy and started producing them. I had my knuckles in hand within a week, along with everything else needed to complete my steering. Install was a breeze, hardest part was dealing with the old nasty grease/gear oil. The set screw for setting trunion bearing preload is genius and makes setup a snap. People familiar with the older hellfire knuckles should know that the ruffstuff ones come with bottom caps instead of cutting your old steering arm and using it as a cap. So you get the massive trunion bearing pins top and bottom! That's a huge upgrade. If you're set on running a 80 series axle, this IS the only steering solution in my mind. I previously had Slee, and albeit it worked, it just wasn't the end all be all.... Hellfires are! If you've never dealt with ruffstuff (I hadn't previously), what a great group of guys and great company, with some really great products at awesome prices. The ONLY issue I had was one of the studs for the high steer arms was messed up (nothing to do with ruffstuff) a simple call and they had a new stud sent out that day. I will be using this company for many more future projects. One last thing, the pics and videos don't do these knuckles any justice. Once you've got them and see how stout they are you'll be happy you went this route. The best, only, and last knuckle you'll ever buy for this axle. Thank you ruffstuff, keep up the good work.
