Description

Jeep Cherokee XJ Steering Box Brace

Weld-on steel brace to reinforce the steering box area of your XJ’s unibody.

If you're running larger tires or wheeling your XJ hard, the factory steering box mount is a known weak point. This weld-on brace eliminates the flimsy factory aluminum spacer and replaces it with a solid steel structure that ties the steering box directly into the unibody with larger mounting bosses.

Built from 3/16" thick steel plate, this brace is cut to fit all 1984–2001 Jeep Cherokee XJs. It's sold uncoated, giving you the freedom to paint or coat it however you like after install. Whether you're daily driving or crawling rocks, this is a must-have upgrade to keep your steering tight and reliable.

Great Reinforcement for any MJ/XJ

I own a 1989 Comanche, and it had already cracked the original Unibody right around the steering box. Around 10-12 years ago a really good fabricator buddy of mine helped me plate that area, and we plated it with an assortment of 1/8" & 3/16" plate cut to fit. It did pretty well for all those years, but now I am doing a 1 Ton axle swap on it, and saw this came out and it was a no brainer to get it. Let me tell you one thing. I wish this would've came out 10 years ago, because this would've taken care of all the guess work and measurements we had to do then, not only that but this is pure beef when it comes to strengthening that part of the unbody. My MJ was definitely used, and sometimes pushed beyond it's limits, but I always ran 33" tires, short arms, small 4.5" lift, and that was enough to crack the OG unibody. So my advice to anyone building an XK with tires 33" or bigger that plans to actually take it on trails is to do this ASAP, that way your unibody is plated before it cracks.
