SRW Sterling Axle Disc Brake Kit

Our disc brake conversion kits are the best conversion to eliminate drum brakes, in many cases it is less expensive to switch to disc brakes than to rebuild drum brakes. Changing from drum brakes to disc brakes is easy, and all the parts you need to complete the conversion and get rid of those heavy drum brakes are included in this kit. In the end you will have an axle that stops better, is easier to maintain, and weighs a lot less. Sounds like a win to me!

The Sterling is becoming a very popular conversion due to the strength of the axle, the Sterling came in a great many Ford trucks in the 3/4 - 1 Ton range from the late 80's until the mid '90's so they are fairly easy to find. Works on the older style Sterling housing with standard 8x6.5 lug pattern. Will NOT work on Semi-float, Dually or metric lug pattern Sterlings.

Important

  • Requires single steel wheel 16" with a maximum 4" back spacing or larger aluminum wheels

Complete Kit Includes:

  • 1 Pair Ford Sterling Disc Brake Brackets
  • 2 Weld on Brake Line Tabs
  • 2 Brake Line Clips
  • 2 Brake Calipers
  • 2 Hydraulic Hoses with Banjo Bolt Fittings (Your hard line requires a 3/8-24" inverted flare fitting for these hoses to bolt to)
  • Standard Calipers come with 10mm Banjo Bolts. El Dorado Calipers come with 7/16" Banjo Bolts
  • 4 New Brake Pads
  • 2 New Rotors
  • Bracket spacers (some housings do not require this spacer. You will need to test fit to see if you will need them)

Note

  • Fits 1984-97 Single Rear Wheel Sterling Axles
  • Rotor slips over the hub
  • Don't forget to re-bleed your brakes once you've installed your new conversion kit.
  • A Proportioning Valve is recommended, this will allow you to fine tune your front/rear stopping power bias. Your front axle should always do about 70% of the work.
  • On some axles you will need to space the bracket from the mounting flange (spacer included with kit), it is not year specific, it is likely to be that they were made slightly different for 3/4 ton and 1 ton with a larger brake shoe

I bought this WITH the e-brake option for my heavy '93 F350 Crew Cab SRW RWD 5-Speed. With the manual tranny, I needed holding power at the boat ramp that the factory drum e-brake never provided. With a couple of YT videos, carefully reading the product page, and a couple of quick support calls with Eric, I am stoked with the upgrade! I hold in place at the boat ram easily now!! I took Eric's advice, and also purchased the Lokar EC-80-FU universal e-brake cables. It made my project much easier and more professional. I am very satisfied, and wish I had done this upgrade long ago.

Straight forward conversion. Get a set of universal E-brake cables before install. Also research how to adjust the calipers to the rotor depth. Stops on a dime now.

I put this kit on my 96 crew cab f350 and it worked fine it says on here that the rotor goes behind the hub but I but it in front of the hub just like the drum goes on and had to space the bracket towards the leaf spring a little bit you want about 3/4 of a inch between the bracket and the rotor hope this helps good product would buy again
