Tapered Steering Knuckle Insert

Tapered Steering Knuckle Insert

A excellent option when using a larger GM 1 ton taper (.75" large end of taper, .68" small end) without buying a tapered reamer. All you need is a 7/8" drill bit which is much less expensive than the reamer. Drill your knuckles to 7/8" bore and drop these in. Can be used for either OTK or UTK steering.

You will need 1 per TRE to complete your steering installation. For use with our GM 1 Ton TRE's only! Sold Individually

Cheap way to add one ton tie rod ends to your knuckles rather than purchasing a reamer. Excellent customer service and great price from Ruff Stuff.

I used this insert and it worked perfectly. I just drilled slow and used some oil to lube the drill bit. Took about 15-20 per side to drill out so be patient.

This insert works perfectly. Dan - Need to design one to fit the ES2026L/E2027R Drag Link with the oversized tapers.....

Questions and Answers

Ask a Question

Gordon on -- Asked: Is this intended to be welded in place or does the taper fit from the TRE jam it in place well enough?

Answered: The knuckle inserts have the slit down the side to allow it to expand when the tie rod is torqued down, so welding is not required
Quinn M. on -- Asked: Can these inserts be used with any GM tre or only ones bought from you?

Answered: Our tie rod ends are modeled after existing Moog replacement GM tie rod ends. These inserts will work on all standard GM 1 ton ends. However, GM also has a High angle tie rod end that came factory at the pitman arm location on many trucks. For the High-angle GM ends, you need our high angle drag link insert: https://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/catalog/DLINSERT.html
Eddie on -- Asked: How tall are these?

Answered: 7/8" overall height
Jeff on -- Asked: If I've already tapered my knuckle will this work for me?

Answered: It will still work fine, the hole you'll need to drill out will be 7/8", which should be larger than most tapered holes, I would recommend measuring your existing hole to verify this.
Jon on -- Asked: Can these also be used on the Y-Link TRE?

Answered: Yes it can be used o the Y-Link TRE.
Bill on -- Asked: It says only to use your tre Does that mean if I one wears out i cant just go to the parts store and buy a gm 1ton tre?

Answered: This insert is for any GM tie rod end with a 7 degree taper(1.5" per foot), which is just about every GM 3/4 ton and 1 ton tie rod end. Many of our GM tapered rod ends are modeled after existing Moog products and can be replaced with local parts stores versions(The Offset TRE's is aftermarket only). Ours are a metal on metal joint for longevity.
