Offset Tie Rod Kit

Offset Tie Rod Kit

Note: If you are buying this to build your own tie rod for a Jeep JK the tubing will need to be cut down.

This is a very nice kit that takes the diameter of a larger Tie Rod and the size of an aftermarket Differential Cover into account.

You may have to ream your knuckle's taper (depending on which knuckle you use) to accept the GM 1 ton TRE but the end result is more than worth the effort!

These have become the mandatory choice for the Jeep JK model as the only ones in the 1 ton size that will work with the factory knuckles.

You will receive:

We supply more DOM than you need because it is way too easy to make a mistake in your calculations and you can always cut tube, growing it back is the hard part!

By Jared M. in NY on 2.3.2016
This is one killer kit! After blowing out my factory tie rod on a rock, I knew I had to upgrade to something beefy. Very simple to build and install and perfect for an OTK upgrade when paired with the tapered weld-in inserts. Only modifications needed were trimming of the lower passenger side sway bar link mount, front of the driver side coil bucket and drilling out the knuckles to accept the inserts. The massive DOM tubing makes contact with those points at full steering lock. Well worth my time with the grinder. No more broken tie rods!

5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 My Install On JK-Adventure.com
By Andrew Felix in CA on 3.2.2013
I was worried about needing to ream the knuckles, but I didn't need to. After reviewing Dr.Dirty's install thread (JK-Asylum), he mentioned that only a few needed to be done out of the numerous ones he built/installed. So I gave it shot. I ran into no problems and I'm very pleased with the kit. You can check out what I did on JK-Adventure.com - http://www.jk-adventure.com/JKA/steering-157/review-ruffstuffspecialties-coms-offset-tie-rod-kit-%24125-3413/#post41275. Or, check out JK-Asylum's thread. Both have great info for the Jeep JK install. Thanks Ruff Stuff Specialties!

Questions and Answers

Ask a Question

Riley on 12-22-2017 Asked: I did a tie rod over on a dana 60 I used 2026 and 2027 ends will this kit still work or is the taper to small Thank you Riley

Answered: The factory 2026 and 2027 was used for the GM drag link and the taper is slightly smaller. We use the GM 1 ton taper that GM used at the steering knuckles on our tie rod ends. They are about .75" at the large end of the taper and is a 7 degree taper(1.5" per foot).
Thomas on 12-15-2017 Asked: Will this bolt directly on to stock XJ linkage?

Answered: No, the XJ's came from factory with y-link style steering linkage. This offset tie rod kit would be used on "crossover" style steering(Jeep JK) where the drag link has an independent mounting location on the passenger knuckle, instead of hooking into the tie rod end. Check out our fully welded and bent Jeep XJ steering kit: http://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/catalog/R2237.html With this kit, as well as most of our other kits, uses GM 1 ton tapered tie rod ends, so you would need to ream your knuckles and pitman arm to accept the larger end.
Bill on 11-7-2017 Asked: Will the tie rod ends bolt directly, without reaming, into my 2009 Jeep JK steering?

Answered: The Jeep JK tie rod end taper is very similar to the GM 1 ton taper, but is slightly different. You would want to hit your knuckles with a 7 degree/1.5" per foot reamer to be sure they seat up completely. You would ream until the large end of your taper is about 0.749"
