The Cure! for Jeep (CJ, YJ, TJ & XJ)

This cure is for the OEM Jeep Y link steering and is designed around the OEM Jeep tie rod end. Use on any other steering kit is at your discretion (Does not fit MOOG's factory replacement ends, they have a thicker housing). If you are using our upgraded GM 1 ton steering linkage for your Jeep please see part number R1768 Very similar to our product "The Cure" but specifically made to work with a factory Jeep steering set up in the Y-link or inverted T style steering position, using the stock tie rods. If running aftermarket GM 1 ton steering please see our other cure.

The Cure gives a self lubricated, fixed yet slightly flexible surface for the tie rod to rest against. The drag link does not flop forward or backward whatsoever yet in common usage it is allowed to roll which causes the steering wheel dead spot and allows for the tie rod roll. Also fits multiple 1/2 Ton solid axle trucks (Ford, Chevy and Dodge).

Not for use on tie rod ends at the knuckle or pitman arm. Fits most factory linkage of the below models, some shaving of cure may be required to get a snug fit without breaking the cure.
  • 1997 to 2006 TJ Wrangler, Rubicon and Unlimited
  • 1984 to 2001 XJ Cherokee
  • 1986 to 1992 MJ Comanche
  • 1987 to 1996 YJ Wrangler
  • 1993 to 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee ZJ
When installing The Cure for Jeep, be sure to verify that the pin on your tie rod end seats completely in the taper.

Manufacturing tolerances in the pin and the taper cause some tie rod ends to seat higher or lower in the taper than others. One sign that the taper is not completely seated is if the cotter pin hole does not sit as far through the castle nut as it did with the standard dust boot. To verify your pin is seated in the taper, apply a marking compound (like gear marking compound, grease, lipstick, etc.) to the pin and tighten down the tie rod end then remove it again. Check the pin and taper to see if the marking compound is spread thinly and evenly around the pin. If it does not spread evenly, the pin is likely not seated completely. Sand down the face of The Cure for Jeep until the pin seats fully.

Depending on the shape of your tie rod ends, some filing may also be required to prevent interferences around the lip or face of The Cure.

The Cure for Jeep is only meant to be used on the drag link tie rod end in Y-link steering. Using The Cure for Jeep at the steering knuckle and pitman arm tie rod ends will not allow necessary flex in your steering system and could lead to failure of your tie rod ends, The Cure, or other steering components.

Just installed (after getting across the states in 2 days BTW!) and immediately feel the difference. Feels like the couple of inches of wheel turn has disappeared. Extremely pleased. Definitely recommended product. Can't wait until my Jeep build progresses so I can order more goodies.

Who would have thought that something so small could give such big results. It is the Cure, for me. Ordering and shipping was simple and fast, thank you. I highly recommend the Cure, even if you don't think you need it.

Ordering from Ruff Stuff Specialties was quick and easy. The instructions for the install were very easy to understand and it took only around 10 minutes to pull out all the tools needed, install The Cure and put everything away! Completely fixed my tie rod roll and wandering steering!

I recently read some reviews on the cure on some jeep forums and i knew i needed to try one for my xj. It stopped by wandering back and forth and tightened up the steering. Great product Ruffstuff Specialties.

I'd like to start with Ruff Stuff's customer service. It's excellent! I ended up ordering the wrong Cure, I called them and they had the right one out the same day. As far as the Cure goes, it's amazing. It got rid of all of the wander that I was getting from my 33s and almost all of my dead spot. I can't say enough good things about this simple part! It's worth every penny.
